On 10-01-2021 at approximately 6:30 am, Granbury Police Department officers were dispatched to approximately the 1900 block of Highway 144 for a major accident with possible entrapment. The initial investigation showed 34 year old Nicholas Eugene Lander of Granbury was southbound on Highway 144. A gray 2017 Nissan Altima driven by a 32 year old Glen Rose man was northbound at the same location. Lander’s vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane and struck the Nissan. Lander’s vehicle then struck the vehicle behind the Nissan, a gold 2009 Toyota Rav 4 driven by a 63 year old Granbury woman and caused the Toyota to flip over. Lander’s vehicle then struck a gray 2021 Jeep driven by a 23 year old Granbury man, which was behind the Toyota. Lander fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by GPD officers a short distance away. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Lake Granbury Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and his current condition is not known. The driver of the Toyota was transported to Lake Granbury Medical Center and then to Fort Worth with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. Her current condition is not known. Lander was found to be intoxicated, he was in possession of Methamphetamine, and he was in possession of a handgun. He was arrested and booked for Intoxication Assault, a Felony 3; Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 – 1 Gram or More But Less Than 4 Grams, a Felony 3; Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury (fleeing the scene), a Felony 3; and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, a Class A Misdemeanor.
