This slideshow below is only a small portion of all the great rocks and smiling faces!

Hood County has joined in a worldwide kindness project, http//thekindnessrocksproject.com/ . Families throughout the county are painting rocks and hiding them around town to be found by others!

There are dozens of posts to the Hood County Rocks Facebook page from folks hiding their specially designed rocks and others who have found them!

As found in the description of their Facebook page, the instructions and ‘rules’ are pretty simple!

‘First you need rocks ….
Rock size should be smaller than the palm of your hand. If you have a good, safe rock hunting place, you may hunt rocks to paint. A variety of rocks can also be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart or any landscaping store.

While hunting for rocks to paint:
Please be respectful!
Do not take rocks to paint from:
-Businesses, people’s homes.
-The railroad tracks, transportation corridors.
-Government, City and State Parks
-Watercraft operation/recreation areas, or along the embankment.
-From people’s property, home, flower bed, cemetery etc.
-It is considered stealing and in most cases trespassing.
-Some rocks are in place for erosion and safety.

Next you need some painting and decorating supplies:
Paint, brushes, sharpies, paint pens, gloss, googly eyes, anything! Let the kids have fun!! Let your imagination go!!
When you’re finished painting/ decorating your rock, we recommend you seal it with clear coat to protect your art from the elements.
Check out Pinterest, Google or Facebook for ideas

Then “hide” your rocks!
Please share pictures of your creations to the Facebook group page before you hide the rocks and the treasures you find.

General Hiding Info:
At parks, outside doorways of homes, businesses, hospitals, libraries, post offices, Anywhere you think your rocks will be found.
Be creative!
Please do not hide in the grass or where a mower might run over it.
Please be careful placing your rocks inside businesses, some have health regulations, audits etc.
Please do not place rocks in front of or inside the credit/debit card readers ATM Machines, gas stations, etc. Most credit/debit card readers security devices will shut the card reader down if foreign objects are detected.
If several rocks are placed together in an area, please only take one and leave the rest for others to find.
Please be mindful when you are hiding rocks. Roads, Intersections and parking lots can be dangerous.’
