Granbury Police Department: Tips to Help Prevent Thefts and Burglaries Over the Holiday Season
The Granbury Police Department would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. The Police Department usually sees an increase in accidents, burglaries, and thefts during this time of year. As the holidays approach, we want to remind everyone of some simple steps to help ensure your safety during the holiday season.
Tips to Help Prevent Thefts and Burglaries
Residential Tips
- Never leave your home unlocked, even when going to a neighbor’s house. Secure all doors and windows. An open door or window can be an invitation for a criminal to enter your home.
- Close your curtains when not home to prevent someone from taking inventory of your residence.
- Leave outside lights on at night to discourage unwanted visitors.
- Do not leave extra keys outside the residence.
- Record the make, model, and serial numbers of all high-value or traceable items.
- Activate alarm system, if available.
- Upon request, the Granbury Police Department will conduct residential checks of all unoccupied residences or structures during the holiday season. Call the Police Department at 817-573-2648 for more details or visit our website to complete the Close Patrol Request Form.
- Download the Close Patrol Request Form at www.granbury.org/DocumentCenter/Index/69. Complete the form, then send to granburypd@granbury.org.
Vehicle Tips
- Always roll up your windows and lock all doors before leaving your vehicle.
- Do not leave valuables in a vehicle where they are visible.
- Do not leave anything with identifying information in an unattended vehicle – driver’s license, social security card, checking book, etc.
- Park in well-lit areas at night.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Avoid parking next to occupied vehicles.
- Trust your instincts, and if it does not feel right find another place to park.
With the holidays comes travel and people either coming to town or leaving town to visit friends and family. Please be safe while traveling this holiday season. Always wear your seatbelt. Most accidents are caused by speed or driver inattention. Slow down. Do not text and drive.
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and stand ready to assist if you need help! The Granbury Police Department can be reached at 817-573-2648 or grandurypd@granbury.org.
