Seeing her daughter graduate from Granbury High School is something Sherry Hille might never have seen.
GHS junior Tina Hille still has another year and a half remaining in her high school studies. However, her mother is battling cancer and may not live to see her walk the stage in May 2020.
Sonya Byrd, health science teacher and sponsor of HOSA-Future Health Professionals, and other GHS career and technical education teachers jumped into action to arrange a ceremonial graduation for Tina and her mother.
Granbury ISD superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn presented Tina with her diploma during a small ceremony with numerous family members, teachers, classmates, and school officials on December 10, 2018, in the GHS bistro.
The GHS choir performed the traditional “Bless Us This Day,” and student council president Shayley Teeter spoke on behalf of the student body. Also addressing the gathering were GISD school board president Nancy Alana, who was principal of Baccus Elementary School when Tina was attending kindergarten there, and career and technical education director Judy Gentry.
