Escaped Callahan County Convict Possibly In Hood County

March 6, 2017

You may have noticed our Sheriff’s Department searching neighborhoods and may have even heard rumors of an escaped inmate. Here’s some clarification on the matter!

Escaped Callahan Co. inmate, Arthur Thurman is said to have ties in Hood County. Several Texas counties are actively searching for Thurman and his 19 year old nephew, Olmedo Bailey Ovilas. Ovilas was not an inmate, only Thurman. Deputies believe that Ovilas assisted Thurman on his escape from the local county jail. Thurman was awaiting extradition to Oklahoma on the charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. There has been a warrant of arrest issued for both men. In addition to his existing charges, Thurman is facing an Escape from Custody charge and Ovilas will be charged with Evading Arrest With A Vehicle and Facilitating Escape. Hood County Today spoke with Callahan County Sheriff’s Office via telephone to confirm this information.

Hood County Sheriff’s Department, as well as Callahan County Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that this escaped inmate and his accomplice have not been located as of Monday afternoon, March 6th.

If you recognize Arthur Thurman and/or Olmedo Bailey Ovilas, please do not approach them. Instead, please contact the Hood County Sheriff’s Department at (817) 579-3307 and report immediately.
