Daughter embezzled money from mother
On 6-9-18 Janit Thomas Smith (75 yoa)
turned herself in at the Hood County
Sheriff’s Office Jail on a Theft warrant
(felony 2-bond $20,000).
The charge stems from Smith allegedly
stealing $40,000 (from 2015 to 2018) from
her 94 year old mother while she was a
caretaker for her at the mother’s home, 8300 block of Hill City Hwy.
Smith is currently out of jail on bond at
press time.
*Correction: the victim did not share a residence with her daughter at any time during the crime.
