TRUSTEES APPROVED SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR ALL STUDENTS, COVID-19 TESTING FOR ALL STAFF
July 9, 2020
The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees approved purchase of school supplies for all students as well as COVID-19 testing for all employees during a special meeting on July 9, 2020.
The district will be working with Operation School Supplies to provide school supplies for every student in GISD. Pre-packaged supplies for each grade level will enable each student to begin the school year without concern about costs during the health and economic crisis, according to superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn. OSS will hold its annual resource fair on Wednesday, July 29 at Granbury High School.
COVID-19 testing for all GISD employees will be conducted in late July so that all teachers and staff are aware of their status. Dr. Glenn commented that this should give parents some peace of mind about those leading in-person instruction on campuses.
Due to the pandemic, parents will have the option of either in-person or virtual instruction for their students. District officials are currently planning for safety protocols for campus-based instruction. Meanwhile, virtual instruction will be more rigorous than during the building shutdowns in the spring; students will participate in daily instruction, have regular assignments, and be evaluated for progress on a normal grading scale.
In other business, trustees approved budget amendments and staff appointments. The board also adopted a resolution allowing for the use of public funds for the school district to participate in local events hosted by civic organizations, charitable groups, and other community organizations.
Trustees next convene for the regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 20, 2020. Board meetings are held in the GISD Board Room located in the Administration Building at 217 N. Jones Street.
