On 07-13-2019, GPD officers were dispatched to Pate’s Hardware at 1310 S. Morgan St. for a reported disturbance. A vehicle had driven into the back area of the store into the warehouse area, and had driven into the doors leading to the interior of the store. The driver then hit/ran over multiple other items both inside and outside the building, striking an employee in the process and causing a large amount of damage. The driver left the scene and GPD officers passed him on S. Morgan. The driver fled and the officers pursued him on S. Morgan to Heritage Heights, through Heritage Heights, and into Comanche Cove. The driver ultimately stopped, but then put the car in reverse and rammed a GPD patrol car. The driver was taken into custody without further incident and was identified as 27 year old Cody Scott Kress of Kingwood, TX. The initial damage estimate for Pate’s Hardware is over $30,000.00. The employee who was hit was not seriously injured and no officers were injured during the incident. Kress was booked for Evading Arrest, a Felony 3, Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon, a Felony 2, Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, a Felony 2, Criminal Mischief, a Felony 3, Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor, and Driving While License Invalid With Previous Conviction, a Class B Misdemeanor.
Granbury PD are reviewing patrol video to determine if an additional Felony 3 charge of Retaliation based on threats made to an officer.
