Granbury-Preliminary reports show that on Saturday December 22, 2018 at approximately 4:24 pm the Texas Highway Patrol was notified of a three vehicle crash on State Highway 144 north of Glen Rose in Somervell County. Union arrival, the Troopers found that a 2001 Chevrolet 1500 Pick up truck driven by Elio Jesus Quintero Sanchez, 26 of Mexico, was traveling north on State Highway 144 near the intersection of Somervell County road 302. A 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Barry Baliff, 60, of Kerrville was also traveling north on State Highway 144 in front of the Chevrolet 1500 and was slowing down for traffic stopped ahead. The driver of the 1500 did not slow down in time to keep from striking the Chevrolet Malibu from behind. The 1500 then traveled into the southbound lane and struck a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe head on. The Santa Fe was traveling south on SH 144 and was driven by Judy Allison Hammond, 65, of Rainbow . Hammond was pronounced deceased at the scene at 5:14 pm by Somervell County Justice of the Peace Ronnie Webb. The driver of the 1500, Quintero Sanchez, was taken by air ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth with serious injuries. Mr Bailiff was not injured. Next of kin have been notified.
The crash is still under investigation. No other details are available at this time.
