Rest In Peace, Brendon Brawley. Granbury Star Athlete Passes, Only Two Years After Brother

by | Jan 31, 2017

Brendon Brawley was an extremely athletic youth that grew up in Granbury, Texas. When it came to sports (Ranging from football, basketball, or golf), he excelled. He was a very competitive person, especially with his older brother, Michael Brawley, who passed away in November, 2014. Brendon and Michael Brawley loved each other very much, and always had each other’s backs, no matter what happened.

Brendon played football and basketball at Cornerstone Christian Academy, and was a star athlete at both sports. He was recently playing recreational flag football and golf. Brendon was friendly to everyone, and was always looking to make people laugh.

Brendon is survived by his parents, Shonda Powell and Donnie Brawley, his siblings Abigail Brawley, Andrew Morris, and Dillon Morris. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Brawley.

Brendon’s viewing will be at Wiley’s Funeral Home on Wednesday night 6pm-8pm, and the funeral will be held on Thursday at 11am at Tolar Baptist Church. The service will end at Strouds Creek Cemetery, where he will be buried next to his brother, Michael.

Note from the author:
I went to high school with Brendon, and although I did not know him personally, I could tell that he was a person with a lot of positivity. The entire situation is deeply saddening. I can not imagine what his family and close friends are going through, and I send my deepest condolences. I wanted to create this article as a memorial to Brendon and the good that he has brought to people’s lives, so I asked a few of his friends for thoughts and memories. A huge thank you to my friend Gabriel White, as I would not have been able to write this article without his help.

“There is a lot to say about Brendon. To sum it up, he had the ability to light up a room. You could throw him in a room with just about anyone and he would be friends with all of them by the end of his stay. He was easy to talk to. He loved his family and friends, and we loved him. He will be missed. Another side note, he was an adrenaline junky. I can’t number how many times I’ve been in the car with him going well above the speed limit. Lol. I could see he had always been searching for peace, never seeming completely content. I can relate to that in a lot of ways. He was just a good guy, with a good personality, and a good sense of morality. I wish I would’ve been there for him more, to help him through mourning his brother, to help him stay on the right path. He had so much more life to live.”

“No matter where Brendon went or who he was with he would make you laugh until your stomach physically hurt, he was always being goofy and just had the most blissful and carefree personality. All he wanted was everyone around him to be happy, and it was impossible not to be with his infectious aura he created wherever he went.”

“Man I always loved Brendon for his optimism and fearless personality. He was something else. He was one of those guys who would talk trash but it was cool and fun you know like he didn’t get on your nerves. There was never a time where I could be mad at him because he was just a charismatic character and I always felt like he had pure intentions. He had a caring heart and you felt it when you talked to him. I remember telling him I was here for him after Michael passed and he told me he was here for me too… like he didn’t think about himself and his own feelings in that moment which would of been more than fine, but he also thought about me which hit home. I knew If I were to see him it would be a positive meeting and I’d leave with a smile on my face.”

“I love this family and especially the Brawley brothers Brendon and Michael. They will forever have a special place in my heart. I even named my child’s middle name after Michaels. Unfortunately Brendon and I haven’t spent much time together after his brother passing. Brendon was the most easy going selfless guy you ever met. Never confrontational, but just a loving guy. He felt like all he wanted to do is have fun and make people laugh. He wasn’t scared to do anything embarrassing for a good laugh. There honestly isn’t much Brendon was scared of doing. He could put his cars to the test and scare the life out of anyone riding with him. The Brawley brothers will be missed beyond measures! I Love you Brendon”

“Brendon was one of my bestfriends, he was one of the most kind-hearted, warm, and energetic people that I have ever met in my life and I speak on behalf of everybody that was lucky enough to meet him. He was always there for his brothers, Michael and Andrew, and treated my own brother as one of his own. He was incredibly athletic and competitive as everyone knows, the guy proved that white men could in fact jump. Watching Brendon play alongside me recreationally was just awesome. We played pick up basketball all the time and played on the same 5 man team in his brothers 1st annual memorial flag football tournament. Brendon was just an incredible person and friend all around and any day that we hung out it was an absolute blast. I will forever miss Brendon, he was a prime example of how short life can be, but how meaningful one could be to others during their time. Love you Brendon, hope you and Michael are enjoying life just like old times.”
