Almost A Decade After Her Killer Was Executed, Sarah Still Needs A Headstone
21 years ago, our small community was shaken by the brutal murder of 11 year old Sarah Patterson and the beating of her 9 year old brother Cody. A man once close to their family did the unthinkable. The man kidnapped the two children on the night of April 30th, 1997. Cody was beaten and left for dead in a local cemetery and Sarah was taken to another location, where she was assaulted and murdered. Bobby Woods was convicted of the crimes and was ultimately executed by the State of Texas in 2009.
Fast forward to 21 years later. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Sarah Patterson still does not have a headstone for her grave site located at Emerald Hill Cemetery in Kennedale, Tx. Her grave site is near impossible to locate for even some family. Sarah’s older brother A.J. and his wife, Nikki Patterson have began the efforts to get Sarah a permanent headstone after failed attempts at locating the original one that had been made for her, which was last seen around 2009. This is where help from the community comes into play. The family doesn’t have quite enough money to cover the costs of a new headstone and the costs for setting it into place at the grave site. They have created a www.youcaring.com fundraiser that has collected approximately $200 since it’s creation.
If you are able to help, please don’t hesitate. This little girl was a part of our community at one time and she still needs us. If you can’t donate, please share this article so this family has a chance at reaching their goal of a new pink granite headstone for their little angel, Sarah Patterson.
