Hood County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Local Scam

August 21, 2017

Hood County Scam Warning

Last week Hood County Sheriff’s Office Deputies took 11 different reports on a “jail scam”.

The caller pretends to be the bondsman that just bonded them out of jail and is asking for more money.
All were asked to go to a local store and buy gift cards or to wire money so they can stay out of jail.
Most victims became suspicious and didn’t send any money; others weren’t so lucky and fell for the scam.

Last week also, Deputies took several reports were the victim received a call from the suspect, claiming he was a officer of the law.
During the call the suspect became verbally abusive and made threats to the caller.

Anyone who receives or falls prey to one of these scams, are urged to call law enforcement and make a report.
