On Saturday, March 4th, The Hood County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission conducted an alcohol sting in Hood County.
Under aged minors were sent into a total of 52 alcohol-friendly establishments with their underage Texas Identification Cards or Texas Driver’s License and attempted to make an alcohol purchase.
A total of 11 Clerks fell for the ruse and sold alcohol to the minors.
10 clerks were arrested and charged with Sale of Alcohol To A Minor (Class A misdemeanor- Bond $2,500). The 11th clerk, who was 16 years old, was not arrested and will be processed as a juvenile being charged with Sale Of Alcohol To A Minor later this week.
Quote from Sheriff Roger Deeds:
“11 clerks is quite a bit, but considering my Deputies went into 52 stores, 22 percent of stores sold alcohol to minors. We hope to get that number down by doing these stings in the future.”
I thought the law was that a person had to be 18 in the state of Texas to work in an establishment that sells alcohol, or at least to sell the alcohol. Is this not correct?
