PLACE 7 TRUSTEE BOB SWEARINGEN RESIGNS FROM SCHOOL BOARD

June 30, 2020

Bob Swearingen

Bob Swearingen, Place 7 trustee on the Granbury ISD school board, resigned at a special meeting on June 30, 2020.

Mr. Swearingen issued the following statement:

I want to publicly apologize for posting inappropriate material on my personal Facebook page. Please know that those comments in no way reflect who I am as trustee, husband, and father of six daughters. The comment was offensive and I have since taken it down and apologized for the mistake.

As a school board trustee I have worked hard to show compassion towards others, fight for conservative values, and put students and teachers first when making decisions. I am proud to serve a great community and school system. Unfortunately, even after apologizing, my comments have continued to draw criticism and take the district’s focus off of our students and staff.

I am a fighter and had planned to continue serving in spite of the critics who refused to accept my apology. However, I ran for school board to serve our students and community. It has become clear that this situation will not allow me to fulfill that mission. At this time I believe it is in the best interests of our students and staff for me to step off of the school board and allow Granbury ISD to refocus on our district’s educational goals. I will continue to be involved and serve our community, adhering to the strong conservative values that helped me get elected.

I am grateful to everyone who supported me and my family. You’re thoughts and prayers have been uplifting. May God continue to bless our district and all of you.

A special election to fill the remaining two years on the Place 7 term was called for November 2020. This will be held in conjunction with the regular general election for the Place 1 and Place 2 posts currently held by Mike Moore and Dr. Barbara Herrington.
