Peaceful Demonstrations Planned for Courthouse Square this Weekend

City of Granbury officials and police are preparing the city for two separate peaceful demonstrations at the Historic Granbury Square this weekend; one at noon on Saturday and another at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday’s demonstration is expected to have just over 100 participants, while it is unknown how many plan on attending Sunday’s event.

“Law enforcement will be there both days to support both groups and their constitutional rights for peaceful assembly,” said Granbury Police Chief Mitch Galvan. “We will be there to protect them…to protect our citizens…and to protect our local businesses.”

Galvan also stated that he and his staff have been working with demonstration organizers and that they are not expecting to see anything other than people peacefully gathering expressing their rights.

“Contrary to some social media reports, there is nothing that leads us to believe that these demonstrations will be anything other than peaceful.”

The square will be closed to through traffic during the demonstrations, with barricades being placed on all roads, as far as one block away. Please plan alternate routes to avoid the square during these times. The roads will be reopened once the demonstrations are completed.
