Now More Than Ever: Woman’s Wednesday Club Reimagines Annual Fundraiser in Response to COVID
GRANBURY, TX (August 06, 2020) – Taste of Granbury Whiskey & Wine is taking place October 15th from 5:00
to 8:00 PM at Hewlett Park. The event is hosted by Woman’s Wednesday Club of Granbury (WWC) in place of
their annual scholarship fundraiser and in response to the strain that COVID has placed on their community. Money
raised will go to Lois G. Cleveland Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will award five $3000 scholarships this year.
WWC is in their 123rd year of charitable and educational work in Hood County and in the greater DFW community.
The WWC has placed an emphasis on the importance of education in the betterment of women’s lives since the
club’s inception in 1897. 42 years ago, the WWC established the Lois G. Cleveland Memorial Scholarship Fund to
combat the college attrition rate of the young women in Hood County and supports the fund with their annual
fundraiser, a fashion show. WWC relies solely on the proceeds of the fashion show and charitable gifts, but with the
present threat of COVID the Club knew the fashion show would not be possible, while the financial needs in the
community would be greater than ever. WWC was faced with an increased need to support their community and
finding a new, safer way to raise the money for their scholarships.
Though it will be the first time in 42 years WWC hasn’t held the fashion show, the WWC board was keenly aware
that canceling the event was not an option, so they sought to reimagine it. Co-Chairs, Melinda Charbonnet and
Cathey Briscoe commented, “We felt that of any year we needed to raise money, it’s this year. Money is tight for
families, and the scholarships are needed even more by our young ladies. We tossed around how we could have an
event that could be outdoors, in a very large area, socially distant, and would still appeal to our sponsors and donors.
So, Taste of Granbury Whiskey & Wine came into being.” The event will feature a selection of Texas wine and
whiskey with tastings from ten restaurant vendors in Hood County. “Our goal was to support our local vendors as
we know that they have been hit hard from this pandemic.” This added aspect of community support makes the
event a win-win.
To enhance the safety of the event, the WWC approached the City of Granbury about using Hewlett Park, a
beautiful treed and landscaped city park across the street from the Granbury Convention Center. The city was happy
to help! The Tarleton Jazz Group will be providing music. The attendance is capped at 150 with a limited number of
sponsorship and tables still available. If you are interested in purchasing a table or sponsoring the event, please go to
www.tasteofgranbury.com.
While the number of COVID cases in Hood County remains low, if for some reason the fundraiser does need to be
canceled, WWC will deliver “the party in a box,” which will include appetizers, wine, whiskey, and favors to each
table host so that they may carry on the event with their guests at their home or place of their own choosing. WWC
is committed to following CDC guidelines and the City’s and County’s recommendations regarding the event.

About Woman’s Wednesday Club of Granbury:
A private women’s club and non-profit charitable organization (501(c) 3), Woman’s Wednesday Club of Granbury
was founded in 1897 and is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Texas Federation of
Women’s Clubs. WWC has been continuously active in Granbury for 123 years and currently has 50 members.
While its members are interested in local, state, national, and international movements, the club focuses on
Granbury and Hood County with members supporting the community both financially and by serving in many of the
area’s other charitable organizations. WWC’s strongly believes in fostering a better way of life for women and that
the pursuit of higher education plays a pivotal role in a woman’s success. As part of their legacy, the WWC
established the Lois G. Cleveland Memorial Scholarship Fund to award annual scholarships to young women who
graduate from Hood County high schools. These scholarships are funded by generous donations, sponsorships, and
fundraising from the annual Fashion Show, which has been reimagined as the outdoor event, A Taste of Granbury –
Whiskey & Wine. The event helps generate income for the WWC’s five annual $3000 scholarships.
About WWC Taste of Granbury:
A premier event hosted by WWC to fund scholarships for female graduates from Hood County High schools
through the WWC Lois G. Cleveland Memorial Scholarship Fund. The event is also meant as community support, to
bring together local businesses who have otherwise felt the difficulties due to COVID quarantine. Taste of Granbury
will be a COVID-friendly, outdoor event, where patrons can enjoy the local business fare, in hopes of reigniting the
synergy for local eateries and establishments. This year the event is taking place October 15th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM
in Hewlett Park.
