Artist of the Month: Rhea Amyett

by | Feb 20, 2017

Rhea Amyett is 27 years old and has lived in Granbury her entire life. Formerly a birth photographer and videographer, she has moved on to pen and ink drawings that not only portray a historic style such as cross-hatching, but captures the nostalgia that comes with it.

When asked to describe her art she said this:

“There is a phrase I like to live by, ‘The Spark of Life.’
It is a phrase that can describe a particular quality of someone or something. The Spark of Life can be found in anything. It can be found in an old chair that’s every creak gives you a vision of your great grandmother rocking in it with her little leg kicking and clapping her hands together when she laughed.
It can be found in a homemade loaf of bread. For example, I am going to draw that loaf of bread with this caption I’ve been saving for it ‘Bread is the kindest and warmest of words.
You should write it always with a capital letter like your own name.
These little random things hold The Spark of Life for everyone that has a fond memory, or is especially sentimental.”

“boiled down and sugared off, I am inspired to draw memories. Small sentimental drawings-like a charm bracelet, but in the form of pen and ink.” – Rhea Amyett
