them of their restrictions placed on them by
the courts.
17 teams with 3 officers assigned to each
team went to home addresses and places of
employment of the sex offender.
Approximately 6 sex offenders were found in
violation of the failed to register as a sex
offender law and will be arrested in the
near future.
The cases are currently under investigation
by the Hood County Sheriff’s Office.

“I am pleased with the outcome and
appreciate the assistance from the US
Marshal’s Office. I feel it’s important to
make that one on one contact with the sex
offender around Halloween to ensure the
safety of our children in Hood County,
which is always a high priority year around”. –Sheriff Roger Deeds

Operation Verify is a collaborative effort to ensure public safety by keeping sex offenders of Hood County in compliance and restricting their ability to re-offend.
On October 18 th , 19 th and 20 th , As part of a joint law enforcement operation the Hood County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshal Service focus of the operation was to ensure compliance of the 146 registered sex offenders in Hood County. Deputies and Marshals broke into teams to cover the most ground possible. Going door-to- door, Deputies verified that all the registered offenders were up-to- date and in accordance with the Texas Department of Public Safeties requirements.
Sex offenders are required under Megan’s Law to register in the city and county where they reside and have strict guidelines to follow after being convicted. Megan’s Law also requires the State Police to create and maintain a registry of persons who reside, work, or attend school in the Commonwealth and who have either been convicted of, entered a plea of guilty to, or adjudicated delinquent of certain sexual offenses.“While compliance checks have always been a standard procedure, we decided to step up our efforts and conduct a county-wide check just before a holiday such as Halloween, We want to know exactly where these registered sex offenders are living and that they are compliant with state law.”
This operation comprised a verification of 100% of the registered offenders in Hood County. This compliance check comes just two months before the December 20 th implementation of the Adam Walsh Act. Passed by Congress in 2006, the Adam Walsh Residency Enforcement Act has created a more comprehensive, nationwide system to track sex offenders. In furtherance of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, the United States Marshals Service assists jurisdictions in locating and apprehending sex offenders who fail to comply with their sex offender registration requirements.
Information about registered sexual offenders is available to the public through the Texas Department of Public Safety website at records.txdps.state.tx.us as well as logging onto www.kidslivesafe.com
If you suspect that an offender listed on the Texas Department of Public safety website is in violation of the law or any information on the website is out-dated or incorrect, please contact the Hood County Sheriff’s Office at 817-579- 3310.
